Lithuania
Language of privacy
The is no general definition of privacy in Lithuanian law but it refers to such concepts as “private life”, “private and family life” (Constitution, Article 22), “right to private life and its secrecy” (Civil Code, Article 2.23), “inviolability of private life” (Law on Rights of Patients of and Compensations of the Damage, Article 10), and „confidentiality of information“ (Law on Ethics of Biomedical Research, Article 9). It is important to note that Lithuanian Civil Code in addition to the right to private life and its secrecy describes three other rights that are still related to privacy discourse but fall under different articles of the Code. Namely, a person has a “right to an image” (Article 2.22), “right of inviolability and integrity of the body” (Article 2.25), and “protection of personal reputation and dignity” (Article 2.24). The fact that there is multitude of related concepts referring to different aspects of privacy may indicate that no attempts were made in Lithuanian law to unify all these aspects under a single concept of “Privacy”.
